Project 2: My progress

After picking a picture of Kurt Cobain to be the main focus of my "destroying an icon" project, I decided I wanted to try to continue the theme of music throughout the rest of the project.

At first this was a bit challenging because music is heard and not seen.

Here are the pictures I chose to demonstrate this concept.

With a mixture of using the mask tool and adjusting the gradient of the images I have created a what I think is a great start.

  1. This is looking great so far! Editing your different layers to interact with each other at varying transparencies works really well with your concept of music being heard and not seen, it makes me think of the kind of synesthesia when people see colors that accompany sound. You've made the manipulation of your image really integrated already!

  2. I agree that your two extra layers merge well with the original image, they don't look like different images plopped on top. The only thing would be that the butterflies seem to get lost a little bit. Maybe adding contrast to them would make them stand out more.

  3. I really love the images that you chose to combine with the Kurt Cobain image - the contrast in the aesthetics of the secondary images and the aesthetics of Kurt Cobain are a really interest dynamic. I also really enjoy the simplicity of your most recent image that you posted.

  5. This is coming along well. I think you're using your textures very well and doing a great job with overlaying things and destroying the icons.
